Those promises were:
- Expand Hate Crimes Statutes to include LGBT
- Fight Workplace Discrimination with support for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)
- Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples
- Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage (DOMA)
- Repeal Don't Ask-Don't Tell
- Expand Adoption Rights regardless of sexual orientation
- Promote AIDS Prevention
- Empower Women to Prevent HIV/AIDS
As AmericaBlog describes in the link above, those eight promises were folded into the following:
- Passing ENDA.
- Support of Civil Unions, but no longer a mention of repealing DOMA.
- Opposing the constitutional amendment.
Now, it turns out that these awesome new benefits that federal employees will get (if you ignore that teeny-tiny unimportant thing about HEALTH INSURANCE) aren't actually new at all - they're rights that federal employees have had SINCE THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION.
A good article by John Aravosis here.
Now, Dan Savage put out a protest idea that is pretty cool, so if anyone is thinking about hanging out in DC anytime soon, this might be a good way to spend the day.
